So I finally tried it, and it seemed to relax me. I've decided I will start smoking occasionally.

Some questions:

To smoke from a bat, how should I go about cutting the bud up? Shred it with scissors? Grind it???

Does weed ever "go bad", or is it okay to smoke stuff you bought 2 months ago?

But you might want to invest in something that renders the hits a lot less harsh than a bat if you're going to be medicinally using it more than "occasionally"

I smoke it to sleep, nothing works better. I have also tried various methods of crushing it, as well as leaving it whole and just pinching off a bowl here and there, but i prefer to use that method for bong hits.

I prefer to crush it up with my fingers, because it gives a pre-connection to the pot you're about to burn, so when you inhale the smoke, it's as if you're being visited by an old friend.

I've used two types of grinders, an herb grinder that can be bought at many herbalist shops or nature stores, and a high quality grinder with pollen screen where the keef collected... that was beautiful, however it felt deprived of the connectivity of using my own hands.


All in all, however, if i had more time with that grinder, i could have imbued more of my personal energy and it would have essentially retained the "old friend" effect.

Weed does not "go bad" unless it is too damp and gets moldy. If you ever have moldy weed -DO NOT SMOKE IT! Moldy weed SMELLS moldy- trust your nose! Cannabis has many scents, but mold is not one of them! Dry cannabis has a fairly long shelf life (months) if kept cool, dry and out of the light. For very long storage, put it in a glass jar and freeze it.

Grinding- several ways. If you like very finely flaked weed, get that big wire mesh strainer from the kitchen and rub the pot through to a waiting plate. This works best with very dry grass (also good if you find seeds in your weed- keep the seeds! You WILL want to grow someday). There are grinders of many descriptions- skip the plastic ones. And, of course, you have fingers!

I would suggest getting a small pipe. There will be a time when you will run out of papers or wraps and need a toke! You can always find a light for your pipe! A small glass "one hitter " will only put you back a few bucks. I've made most of my pipes.

Eventually you may wish to get a vaporizer. I'd suggest a Vapor Brothers as a reasonable 1st vaporizer. Vaping cuts down on coughing.

For a 'bat' you don't need to grind it, just use your hands. It's personal choice though, some like to grind everything so they get more surface area. Personally, i would only grind buds for a joint or blunt. If you're going to do this, invest in a grinder with a keif catcher rather then scissors. To be honest though, don't even worry about those issues, just put on some of your fav tunes, lay on your bed, blaze a fat one and relax.

Hey Storm I know you know your shit but Freeze the weed? All the Trichs will fall off No good IMO... The whole glass Mason Jar in a dry place is cool for me!!! Once you start blazing and you are not paranoid your fist time. You will be a PRO in a month or so... Buy a grinder you will not be disapointed @ all... And to answer the question of the original poster. Try and keep the weed in a mason or other type jar. Keeping it in the baggie you get it in usually causes trichomes etc to stick to the side of bags because they are statically charged. There are also Anti-Static bags you can buy and weed dosent seem to stick to it as much. Check for mold as stated above but you should have no problem smoking the stuff after 2 months or even a year if stored properly. Have fun and welcome ! Glad you have found a benefit for smoking.

Get yourself a glass pipe. Glass Waterbongs are nice too..

I bought myself two glass pipe from a localhead shop for $20 to $30 a piece. They're easy to clean with 90% or better alcohol(rubbing alcohol or ethanol). Though there may be some dried resin/tar on the inside that you'll need to use either a pipe cleaner or something else. I use table salt as an abrasive with rubbing alcohol and seal the open holes(with fingers) on my pipe and shake it excessively.
