i can roll nice tight joints but they are no where near being as pretty as urs is but as long as the joint burns nice and slow for a good long time and i get nice and high i dont care how they look theres gonna be nuthin left 2 the joint except for a little roach when ur done smokin it right

just got back from the Dam where i remembered another way if you dont like the taste of the paper (until you try it you wont realise how bad the paper tastes).
its best to use the finest papers you can get. in uk Rizla silvers. the reason will become clear
step 1 - take your skin and fold it the reverse way than what it came out of the packet. you need to have the glue side on the underneath and at the bottom nearest you.
step 2 - fill it with goodies and whatever then roll it as normal so its the glue strip that is the first bit you fold over.
step 3 - (the reason for the fine papers) to stick it you need to lick the outside of the rolled up spliff. If you use fine paper you can clearly see where glue strip is, so lick there.
what you are left with (or should be) is a perfect rolled spliff with just a single roll of paper and a large flap of the remaining paper coming out the side. to get rid of it simply set it alight. Don't worry it wont set the spliff alight. As soon as the fire hits the the part you just licked it goes out.
then just a little tidying up and your away.
no more nasty paper taste. I read somewhere its called a Dutch joint but thats probably a load of crap.

A couple of additions to this;
if youve only got thicker papers, sometimes its easier to licky the gummy before you roll it in.
Also, it helps to apply a little more saliva when it comes to burning it, and then run the lighter along it to clear up the nasty edges

I usually have a tiny bit of spill. But there's nowhere to put it. I just do it over a board or whatever, then sweep the leftovers back into my nug jar or whatever.

But anywho, you start off with a normal L plate, but roll it at an angle, and add a second one onto the L.
I cant feel my face.

Illmatic ;
try putting the roach on the right hand side ( i find it easiest ), and once youve got the edge over ( before you roll it up to the sticky ) you can tighten it up by moving the back up (index finger) and pushing the top side forward and down. This is what i do when im rolling a huge one and it helps a lot.
As for burning slowly, you have to pack it. What i normally to i grab it by the roach and tap it on a hard surface, then pinch the top ( youll have some slack paper ) and flap it about ( get your roaches fitted properly first, otherwise itl fall out ). Then grab something ( clipper flint works best for me ) and poke it down until the top layer looks even. Finally twist the top and BITE the end off. This should help it burn slower and more evenly.

when you put the bud into the paper
and when your holding it, fold the paper over
the bud then roll it around with your fingers
your goal with that is to pack the bud
together to form a neat cylinder. then what i do is tuck the
bottom paper in and just roll it up

Just thought i'd say how much of a great thread this is. Everybody should know how to do a basic roll, its a great thing to do and very rewarding. It wasnt that long ago that I was rolling loose joints that barely stuck together, didnt smoke well at all and just were terrible. But I picked up techniques along the way from friends, pictures and generally just rolling to whichever way worked best. I mean the feeling you get when you've sealed the joint and it looks perfect is great...then the feeling you get when your smoking it is even better!
And you dont wanna end up at a party or something where theres no other way to smoke but joints. People will gladly roll for you but they will also gladly slip your bud into there pocket. Hasnt happened to me, now it never will.
Anyways...for those who arent the best rollers, keep trying...you'll get it right sooner than you think.

The joint holder made by the business card is great. I used an index card ripped in half and it's just the perfect size for the papers I have.
I have found that filters make it a lot easier to roll the joint because you have something to start from. I also found that the hole in the center of the side of a spool of thread is about perfect for holding a joint straight up if you want to repack some stuff that may have fallen out or just to add a little more.

Oh, another tip, if your rolling w/o a table its easier to use an M-plate. Get some card and fold it into the shape of an M, then you can place your paper in there whilst you fill it. And any spillage can easily be packed down the top at the end. I always have one in my bag.

LOL, here's how to use a rolling machine in case the above post was serious. Okay, first you spread the rollers apart. Then you poke your fingers down in the cleft of the rolling cloth. Then you drop your load of tobacco in there and push any stray back into the cleft with your fingers. Next you push the rollers together and wrap your hands around the machine and pull down on the blanket with your thumbs until the tobacco rolls into a firm stick of tobacco. Then you slip the side of the skin without the sticky between the rollers with the sticky side towards your face. Now you just roll the blanket down with your thumbs, but this time stop before the sticky stuff goes down in the crack and gently lick the sticky strip with the tip of your tongue. You want just enough moisture to soften it up a tad but you don't want it dripping soggy wet. All you have left is to roll the blanket down again with your thumbs, spread the rollers apart, pick it up and put it in your mouth! OMG, that seemed so dirty when I typed it I heard a Secret Deodorant commercial with a siren in it and I thought I was getting arrested for lewdness LOL.

first of all to the starte of this thread nice joint and nice philosophy. i too agree that joints are about rolling and aesthetics. it also seem to me a perfectly coned and prepared joint, burns more smothely and evenly, and can leave an impressive amount of ash in a block.
to the dude wanting to put thin hash strips, do this it is sick if you put a few in and pack it with rolling baccy you can blow the baccy ash away and keep the hash strips.
to all you practisng keep on your joints will improve.
to the nob end pen rollers. a packed joint burns the worst way imaginable. theres no consistency and they take so much longer to make.
to the dude who said well alcohol is poured into bottles. well yeah great. but cigars are rolled and you dont wrap a present by sticking the paper first.

to the machine rollers. way to tight. best thing you can do is rip out the plastic and use your fingers as the rollers. just pinch the paper and medium together with the plastic and roll it back and forth, its a good way to learn
to all the shit hot rollers out there peace.

Is it me that's a tit? Lol, after reading my posts while of normal mind I realize it was compleeeetely whack. But I think if you follow it you will get a smoke from a roller, so it's not completely worthless. Hehehe.
