Michigan MMJ DID PASS!!!
By a 2 to 1 margin Michiganders passed proposal 1 to legalized medical Marijuana. This makes Michigan the 13th state to passed MMJ law. I believe this is a turning point, It kind of reminds me of the first 13 colony's of america. IT WAS A GREAT NIGHT.

Congrats to Mass, Maine and Mich. Hope your wording in the law is tighter than California's.
Good going to the voters and MJ patients of those states.

Does anyone know how MMJ patients would get there maijuana? Will there be dispensaries in Michigan? Will the Government supply people?
This makes me curious, if we can open up dispensaries do you need a recommendation? I'm fairly new to how MMJ works. |

The new law will go into effect on December 4, 2008, and the Department of Community Health will have an additional 120 days to issue regulations for a medical marijuana registry. This link should provide you with all the info you will need for Michigan medical marijuana Welcome! | Michigan Coalition for Compassionate Care you can read the actual proposition word for word and pretty much any other info you could need. Good job to all the Michigan voters who helped this pass, it is definatly a step in the right direction. her is some info directly from the proposition.
(a) "Debilitating medical condition" means 1 or more of the following: (1) Cancer, glaucoma, positive status for human immunodeficiency virus, acquired immune deficiency syndrome, hepatitis C, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Crohn's disease, agitation of Alzheimer's disease, nail patella, or the treatment of these conditions. (2) A chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition or its treatment that produces 1 or more of the following: cachexia or wasting syndrome; severe and chronic pain; severe nausea; seizures, including but not limited to those characteristic of epilepsy; or severe and persistent muscle spasms, including but not limited to those characteristic of multiple sclerosis. (3) Any other medical condition or its treatment approved by the department, as provided for in section 5(a). States that there will be no help in finding you your medication, the Act also doesn't specifically allow any form of dispensaries. Although I hear there is a group that may be attempting something like this, but their will likely be some legal flak involved. Basically, what will be happening is a network of caregivers and patients who together are going to be working for the cause to provide. There is a association forming up now, that will match patients with caregivers at Michigan Medical Marijuana Association.org The site is in the process of being set up right now and should be done fairly soon. The Association is still in formation at this point because the election still needs to be ratified, then there are public hearings with input from citizens, enforcement, etc that need to happen. According to the proposition, once the election is ratified you can conceivably have a recommendation made, but it is doubtful that everything will be in place until January. We are looking forward to working with patients/caregivers/health care professionals in education, training, and maintaining compliance. Now that we Michiganders have a legal outlet we want it to remain that way! Yes a new sub forum is needed.

Way to go everyone! I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout of the "burnouts." Goes to show that we can, and have a responsibility to affect change. This is not the first time I've gone to the polls, but many of my friends made their first trip to the voting both because of Prop 1.
I have lived with a cancer patient undergoing chemo, and anyone who says that cannabis is not a viable medication has obviously not had that level of personal experience. I have to add here that amongst all the political advertising flooding our newspapers and TV sets, I never once saw an ad or piece of mail for Prop 1. Just goes to show how important this issue was to my fellow Michiganders! |

Haha! I don't think it was mostly stoners who voted. I know of quite a few older (60-70s) that voted in favor and don't even smoke! I think the victory in MI is pretty much proving that the support for it is pretty strong, even if they don't even want to use it. That being said I know for a fact that a hell of a lot of people smoke here in MI and keep way below the radar because they are lawyers, mayors, doctors, etc. Now we just have to get through the hearings...

Oh, I agree GoldenGoblin. Unfortunately it's hard to present facetiousness in a board post. I had a lot of people (mostly far-rights, but that's another board entirely) telling me that this would never pass.
You also have a valid point about the hearings, and yes, it's the smart ones that keep everything on the D.L. |

I considered it quite likely that it was going to pass...I believe it was five cities in michigan that had enacted municipal legislation for mmj, it wasn't a secret to them, and the ridiculous anti marijuana ads didn't affect it any...They knew what the right thing was

this is awesome. I am a disabled veteran living in Michigan and deal with chronic pain daily, my docs have stopped some of my pain meds cause I am getting to where I am getting addicted. Obviously I alleviate through "other"
means but now it will be legal I am pretty sure I have a condition covered under the law.....I wonder when there will be a doctor list to go see.... |
