Hi,

If you read my first thread here Considering growing (newbie). Advice appreciated. you'll see I'm clearly quite new into this. Also in that thread is my decision against growing my own plants due to complications.

[removed by mod staff]

Now I desperately need advice on which bud type/strain will best suit my needs.

Right so here's my requirements.. I suffer from quite severe anxiety/paranoia and have had this throughout my life. As a result of this problem I also experience on/off depression. I have never taken medication.

I am also a musician (guitarist) and, although this may not seem as important as my anxiety problem, music is a big part of my life, and in turn effects my state of mood, so something that might give me inspiration and creativity would be beneficial here as well.

I understand that it might not be possible to find a strain that will cater to both my needs so please recommend separate types if this is the case. Although I would prefer, for cost reasons, to just have to deal with one strain type.

I have limited options in the strains.

Here is what is available (in the high grade range): Arjan's Haze, Blue Satellite, Himalayan Gold, Jack Herer, Juicy Fruit/Early Girl, Kahuna, OG Kush, Purple Kush, Soulshine.

I'd appreciate any advice on the best option(s) from the above list of strains.

Thanks.

Can anyone help me out then? I need be 100% sure before I make a move as I don't want to smoke an unsuitable strain.. so I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks.

By the way I'd also like to add.. I don't want any intense couch lock effects, if that's possible.

You should look up the strain descriptions of each to see what the effects are listed as. Seedboutique has a wonderful assortment of strains that is searchable and includes a little writeup of each.

Just FYI, I removed a bit in your post referencing MOM, which is strictly NOT discussed here.

I didn't think a simple mention of that subject was prohibited. I apologize.

I have looked over the list of different strain effects here and it is helpful, but not all of the strain types that are available to me are mentioned. Only one or two. And I'm finding it difficult to come across any info on these strains on the net. So basically I need to know what my best bet is out of the list I have given.

I think the way to approach it is if you can't find the EXACT strain, group them into classes of strains-
For example, Kushes would be in one class that you can expect to have reasonably similar effects- Anti-nausea, happy, etc. Then the Hazes would be in another- Trippy, heady, etc. And so on. You can try to find the parents of each hybrid strain listed, and look up their effects, and assume that the offspring would carry them to a certain degree. Sorry I can't help more, but it's a start.

Let me tell ya buddy..Im an Iraqi vet and Im in that boat with you. I see your choices consist of a few sativa hybirds. Personally, the sativas can be the ones that cause the most paranoia. I would stick to more indica dominant hybirds. I find about a 70/30 mix (70 percent indica). As for acquiring genetics just do some looking around on the site and you will find reputable places and not so reputable places.

I say sativa can cause paranoia because it does this even with naturally unparonoid people. (Like the alpha types who don't know when to sit down and shut up) Give them some haze and watch how anxious they get to be alone!!! Indica does the opposite by having a more relaxing effect

Just some info from an agoraphobic, PTSD, hypertension having disabled vet!! Who has been smoking and growing for the past 13 years....Smoke indicas and stay calm enough to go out and do daily activities,,,Smoke some GOOD sativas l(ike some of the ones you mentioned) and you may be at home under the bed with voices speaking to ya!!

As for couchlock,,,you control that by when you pick your buds. The earlier you pick indicas in their harvest window the less couchlock you have and more enjoyable high(in my opinion) others like the couchlock so they let theirs go until late in the window (sometimes over the window) which can create that couchlock effect.

I just noticed in your first post you said 'in the high grade range'. And then you gave a list of what we would consider 'headies' around here. Yup, they are high grade. But the reason I personally can't help you decide from among them is that I don't smoke sativas myself because of anxiety/panic problems. Many strains that would be considered 'mid grade' would be more appropriate- any Afghani or Affie-dominant cross will help you with anxiety. What's the middies menu from your guy?

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Forwhat420, I appreciate you sharing your experience. You outlined a lot of things I did not know about. I'll be sure to stay well clear of the Sativa dominant strains then.

This is interesting. Looks like I won't have any control over this then unfortunately, as I won't be growing.

stinkyattic,

There isn't much available in the mid grade range. Just two. There's '007', which is labeled as 'mostly indica'. And 'Double 0 Diesel' (Indica/Sativa). They don't seem to be very popular, do you recognize these strains? Any of those two better for me then?

Ah... you got my hopes up, thought I had a response.

Can someone answer my last question about the mid grade (premium) strains.

Also I spent some time researching the 'Kahuna' strain and it looks to me like it might suit me well. The info sheets state that it is mostly Indica, which you guys say I should go for. The strain invites creativity and doesn't cause heavy couch lock, which is perfect. And I'm assuming that, considering it's indica, it should also ease my anxiety. I need a go ahead. What do you think?

Diesels, in my experience, are quite relaxing.

Sup RP... yeah long time no chitchat... yeah I'm a middie kinda girl, lol, rather than deal with the racy spacy sats in brick and headies. I'll grow my own headies, of strains I know aren't going to spazz me out.

There is a strain called Himalayan Gold that might be perfect for your needs. You should check it out.

Edit: As a dumb Stoner I did not read all the way through the original post. If Himalayan Gold is still available in your area get it!!!!!

Yeah Himalayan Gold is available. It does actually seem to have everything I require, wasn't paying much attention to it before. Has a 'clear, creative high with a strong body feeling'. Some of the reviewers report that they had the urge to clean up their whole home after smoking it.. so I guess I don't have to worry about couch lock. One of the cheapest of the high grade strains too (only a few euro more than the 00 Diesel).

So I think I'm set on Himalayan Gold then. Thanks OZO.
