I really like Calle 13 and saw them in concert about a month ago. Amazing musicians that displayed a hard rock edge (3 guitarists with 2 drummers) even though EVERYONE in the band sang/rapped as well.
I thought this genre to be rather crude and borderline appealing when it first became popular about 5-6 years ago.
However, other recent artists such as Ivy Queen, Tego Calderon and Daddy Yankee have really smoothed things up.
Calle 13 is still the shit, tho!

The only thing that the 2 styles of music share is a similar name.
Otherwise, they sound nothing alike and shouldn't be compared in each other's category.
