I play drums. Jazz.

I think that playing stoned messes me up, but nobody seems to notice.
Last week, I was jamming with these dudes on one song for 20 minutes (which seemed like an eternity because of the time dilation) and afterwards, I was sure I'd get a boot.....but everyone was like, "Wow, great job man!".
And they were serious.

When I'm playing stoned, my mind will wander, my focus is strange, and I'll have all these great musical ideas....but I'm not sure if it's something that I already played....or if I played the things that I thought I played, or "was it just a hallucination??". And I'll wonder if the ideas are that great anyway....because I realise that I'm stoned, and that my genius ideas may actually be retarded.

So, how does smoking affect *your* playing?

My friend can testify...I am a bassist and I can shred some mutha fuckin slap bass when I am stoned. I MURDERED some chili peppers songs when I was blitzed one day...
One of my friends looks at my bass and then looks at me and says...
"Foskers...you should play your bass..."
I said in my stoned way... "I SHOULD shouldn't i?"
with that...I picked it up...and the miracle happened...I played better than I ever had...and I felt like I wasn't even trying. I was looking around and talking and everything was great...but I was RIPPED...

I play guitar but what i experience while playing high is very similar to what you get. I'm in a jam band and its almost completely on my shoulders to keep our sound fresh. One time I decided to toke before a session and we jammed for a whole hour straight(felt like a week) and my drummer and bassist told me i came up with some of the most awesome creative shit they ever heard out of me.. which is funny because my mind was wandering the whole time and I forgot everything i even played!

i have recorded a couple songs fried and they turned out ok to me, then i put em on myspace and everyone had them as their profile songs and was like sweet man i was like thank mary j

I once smoked a jay with my friend before going to play guitar with our little "band". It's not really a band, just some friends who like to get together and jam sometime.. But anyway, he drums and he couldn't drum for shit. He kept falling over and laughing and we got this other kid to play. We were playing dani california and I couldn't remember the solo for the life of me. I started to play some random notes and started laughing. Nobody was really mad because they all knew we were high, but it was embarrassing nonetheless.

However, I find if I start playing guitar for a while.. Ten minutes or so (enough to get into it), and THEN I toke, I can play pretty much fine.. A little more creative on the soloing end as well..

I play guitar, bass, and keyboard. We were smoking a bowl this one time and they wanted me to play the keyboard the whole time based on the mood of the room. It was fucking hilarious. That however got boring for me after about ten minutes.

I play guitar and violin aye.. Only really played guitar once when I was high, I was just a bit unco, but quite a lot more creative.. So yeah I reckon writing the pieces when your high, and performing them straight.

I play guitar and mandolin. I have a jam band with some buddies and smoking before a jam session is pretty much commonplace, and we can usually come up with some pretty ridiculous shit. So i would have to say it benefits my creativity and improvisation skills, it just gives you a whole new perspective to your playing, plus a different perspective of what all the other musicians are doing, thus creating new opportunities.

But alcohol and cocaine just make our playing go absolutely wild. some of the best jams we've had have been because of good old alcohol and cocaine. Just gets you in the groove.

I wouldn't say I'm a musician myself. I played violin for 9 years, and piano for one, and I tried to learn guitar but gave up after a couple of months, but I will say that smoking improves playing. I quit all of them before I began to smoke, but I like playing guitar hero, and although it isn't a real instrument it's pretty close, and I can tell you right now I play 100% better when I'm high.

drums. when i get real baked my hands relax, my arms relax, i can roll faster and just move smoother around the set, if i am not stoned i get tense and fuck up more, it just seems to come easier while high. not to mention that you can just drift into the music as a whole when your stoned and get lost playing for hours.

I play the drums and when I'm high I can usually do better solos and such but if I'm too high it gets hard to keep the same rythm going for a long time because I space out and then get a little off beat. But overall I would say smoking improves my playing because when I'm not high I try to think what I'm gonna play or when I'm gonna do a solo but when I'm high it just happens with out thinking about it.

I'm decent on bass (did it for band in highschool) and I can play a few chords on guitar...I really should dust off my guitar and start practicing.

lol I was messin around with a buddies old akai MPC a few days ago and that shit is a huge trip...lol anyone that doesn't consider that an instrument should try making a beat...definately takes a lot of practice and skill

I play slide guitar and some harmonica, mostly blues, blues rock, and some old-style country.

getting high before i jam with the band helps me get into the music more and spend less time focusing on trying not to fuck up, i think it sounds better when im stoned aswell

I play guitar. Been playing around 10 years. Should have taken it more seriously. I've dabbled in recording for a bit. Quality of my recordings are alright. They aren't the best but they aren't horribly crappy either. I'll play anything really but I mainly play rock and metal. I just say metal because there are so many different sub-genres of metal that I can't keep up with it! It's crazy. I've got an ESP LTD M-1000FM with the EMG 81's, Epiphone Demon V with the EMG ZW Pickups, Crate Half Stack, and Digitech GNX-4. I've got some recording is anyone is interested. It's just guitar and drums.

I play drums and some guitar.I find myself playing alot better when i'm stoned.I can go sit on my throne and just get lost in the music and seem to play the drums alot better.I'm alot more creative and serious about the music too.I can play longer and really get into every beat.

I play guitar i got me a fender strat dope ass guitar. Sometimes when im at my friends house i play his drums, he is like a big led zeppelin person so his idol is jon bonham greatest drummer ever
