I had a problem with voles eating the roots of my garden this year. The little buggers had eaten the entire root balls killing 2 of my girls and before I could really take action they were half way through the 3rd plant when I knew I had to dig em up or lose em. They were about 4 weeks into flowering and 6 foot tall so I figured they would be goners.

What I did was dig kind of a moat around the plants at about 18 to 24 inches from the stalk and went down about 18 to 24 inches. Then, with my hands, I dug under the bottom of the root ball pulling and loosening the roots and trying not to break them. Then into some big ol flower pots with a perlite soil mixture for good drainage (They were in VERY good draining soil when in the ground)

The leaves went completely limp for two days then started to perk up. By the fifth day the leaves were back to normal except for some yellowing on some of the big fan leaves. The growth definitely slowed for about another week then went back to normal and they are now finishing nicely!!
