You will grow what ever the seed came from, genetics plays a much larger role in increasing potency then actual growth conditions. You want better bud? get better seeds. You can probably get a little more out of your bag seed if you really hit the sweet spot on your plants with nutes and temp and humidity. But dont expect to get sugar coated buds from bag seed.

Jack is right, genetics determines the quality and how frosty the buds have the potential to become. You can definitely take some Mexibrick, give the plants some TLC, and end up with product better than what was originally mass-produced... but genetics are still going to determine just how potent it will become. If you want to grow some buds like you see on the cover of High Times, it's time to invest in some quality genetics.
Take care.

I thought thc % was in the genetics. How frosty the buds are have to do with genetics AND how you take care of it tho.. And I have seen bagseed that came out very good.. and I've smoked mids that got me higher than 'good genetics'. You never know until you grow it and try it. People talk genetics all day but I've seen ppl fuck good genetics up and I've seen people get good quality out of bagseed. But yea to answer your question you can work with bagseed and push it's potential far beyond what you originally got.. but as far as competing with the seedbank strains.. it's not likely.

My grow was bunk ass Mexican sak weed. I bought an 1/8 for 25 bucks and had to smoke a couple joints to get a good buzz. But after i grew it out its couch lock. Just TLC like MD said made a huge difference. Now its harsh and i really dont like the taste which i could have messed up curing it, but i burn a half a joint and im wasted, but its no WW.

I've had great luck with a batch of bagseed I got from a friend of mine - I also have a 'Barney's Farm - Bluecheese' in with this grow, and it's noticably more powerful (smelling that is, so far..)... I guess that goes to show that good genetics from a seedbank are statistically better... at least in my case. But check out my grow journal and see how (as others have said here) a little TLC can help a lot too. I guess just because your bagseed came from 'sub-par' pot, it's always possible that you will do a better job growing it than it's predecessor.... =)
