What do I do if I find cannabis plants growing in the wild?

This question comes up every year about this time.

You might be out hiking and stumble across a single cannabis plant, or a whole bunch of them.

Your first reaction might be, "wow, that's a lot of pot, I can't wait to get it home and smoke it! That's enough for the whole winter!", or even "I bet I can sell that stuff and pay off my car loan!"

But please stop and think for a moment.

Someone has put those plants there, taken risks, and worked hard caring for them since June. They aren't just growing there by themselves and someone is going to be heartbroken that they're gone.

Think about the grower as another person.

Maybe they would like to have some smoke for the winter, but can't afford the prices that dealers charge.

Maybe they are growing a few plants to sell.

Maybe they are counting on that income to help buy food and fuel for the coming winter.

Remember too that one of the obstacles to the legalization of cannabis is the theft, violence, and general dishonesty that can spin off of it. When tokers can be ethical and all get along without stealing each others' stashes, and then having the snots beat out of them for it, the case becomes stronger that it is a relaxing and peaceful way to alter your perceptions.

So when you stumble on a plant in the woods, remember that as a toker, you are part of this community. Just leave it there for the person who grew it.

You go get a firearm and stand guard over them until the rightful owner comes. Tell them what you've been doing and will continue doing, and they will reward your efforts. LOL

Peace.

You're the kind of person who if they found a lost wallet would help themselves to anything in it before returning it to the owner.. if you even returned it.

Says who? They are taking the time to grow an illegal substance outdoors in the middle of nowhere. If it were private property I would think twice. But if it were in a public spot damn right I will be taking a closer look.

What you tend to forget is that it is not only peaceful hippies that grow marijuana. If I found a grow in the wild, I would probably keep my eye on it to see who ends up showing up. If the pot is going to bad uses, such as funding a gang or another shit scheme, then I will do my civic duty and relieve them of their crop. If it were just some hippy or yuppie growing for personal use, or even to sell for their own profit, I would leave it alone. I would be willing to take the time to find out that shit too.

I have to agree with this because this is damn near exactly what i would do. It would be tough to pass it up, but if it were for some bro's personal use, id leave that shit be. for real

See, I don't understand what criteria you are using to judge.

By yuppie, are you talking about some khaki-wearing white person who you personally identify with on a socioeconomic level?

Does stealing from someone who is a criminal any less of a theft?

Can you tell a criminal just by looking at them?

Is a yuppie growing to sell different from a disadvantaged urban person growing to sell?

Is it morally right to steal from Wal-Mart because they treat their employees like shit, or is it still theft?

I had half of my outdoor grow stolen a few years ago and although I was pissed, I also was grateful that they left half for me. My avatar pic is from that grow.

It would be OK to take some....

...a small proportion of whats there...if the flowers are ready. (I think). Try not to take it all. I was trying to plant some stuff this year deliberatly for people to find! Just the odd plant near car parks and stuff (country). On plant was right by a (ok a very little used woodland car park)...still there at harvest. Other stuff happens that I don't really wanna take about - but try and keep a sense of homour in your response if the landowner on where your weed is growing finds and destroys it.
