Young Plants are greying!

Hey guys,

These WW plants are just a couple of weeks old, and I think they got too hot because my girlfriend closed the closet door for hours.

I was using a pretty shitty soil, I found out...wasn't holding moisture well at all... I've since transplanted them into Gardener's Gold Organic Potting Mix. The new growth looks good, and I think I just burnt them, but I wanted you guys to take a look and tell me what you think.

Pics are not that great, from a camera phone.

Hmm...I'm not a soil grower but here's a good link to look through. Hope it helps.

Geez.. how many poor seedlings did I do that too....

Here were the reasons for my causes

1. Crappy Soil
2. Horrible PH
3. Not enough light (I purposefully killed some plants by putting them outside the grow room.)
4. Too much heat.

These were my causes when I was first trying to get seedlings to sprout.

Most of my problems were resolved with a PH pen, Very good soil, and some cooling..

You don't want your soil to hold too much moisture. Lots of problems are caused or at least exacerbated by overly wet medium.
Looks like your soil (s) are/were too chemically 'hot' for young seedlings. They may grow out of it or not, but they are pretty stressed... You'll want to flush with water at correct pH, make sure the ventilation and temperature in the room are correct, and go a lot easier on watering in the future.
If you have a 'grow' fertilizer with micronutrients, in about a week, make a VERY VERY weak solution about 1/5-1/4 what the label says and LIGHTLY mist the plant with this. I can't tell how many nodes you've got since it's apparent that leaves have alreaday dropped. Heck, you might be ready to do the foliar right away. Count... 5 nodes= ready to start lightly feeding. Those seedlings look locked out and hungry, but contributing to the existing problem in the soil will make it worse.
At next transplant, use MUCH more perlite in your compost mix! Drainage=good!

Thanks for the tips...

I've transplanted once already, from that crap ass soil to premium organic stuff, and it seems to drain very well... I typically don't water my plants until the soil starts seperating on top, that's what I was told to look for. My tap water (well not city) is right at PH 7 so I'm good on that front.

Like I said, my g/f closed the closet door for like 4 hours, and the plants basically baked, I think that's what did it. 2 of 4 still look good. The pics are of the worst 2.

Anyway, I got home today and checked them, and the worst one (first pic) has two new sets of leaves on top, so it looks like it's come out of lock, and is actually growing again. So maybe I'm on track. Thanks for the help.

Oh, and as far as nutes.

I have some Miracle Grow Nursery Select (formally Miracle Grow Patio) that I was planning to use. It's 20-20-20 here's the link.

Miracle-GroŽ Nursery Select All Purpose Water Soluble Plant Food : Product : The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company

Is this stuff ok to use...if it's NOT...could someone please let me know what I should use, preferably something that is widely sold, sometimes I have trouble finding some of the specialty stuff.

I find that watering by the weight of the pot is a more accurate measurement.

I use a combination of the RH%, Weight of Pot, and finger test.

I've never bothered looking for soil seperating on the top. I take it you mean waiting until the soil gets very dry and breaks apart into dust?

If so then you really don't want to be waiting that long until you water.

Update?

So... what ever happened? I've lost a few that looked exactly like that. Did you pull through? Give up? Start over? I had a lot of the same setup specs and would like to know how this was resolved. Don't leave us hanging. I saw another post of yours from June (?) maybe, and it had a pic of an older plant. Wondering if that was a survivor.
