Bugs (flies) + Mold

Hey all,

I have done to much topping and alot of the lower flower on the colas have started to show dead leaf growth and mold. Any way to fix this?

I also just noticed that there's a bunch of these little flies. They have big wings for their bodies very wide wings.. In between a fly and nat.

If you can point me in the right direction that would be awesome!

For the flies (I'm guessing fungus gnats), first thing you should do is make sure there's no standing water sitting around the grow area. Besides obvious safety reasons, it's a good idea to keep things dry because fungus gnats breed and lay eggs in stagnant water. If you're using pots that collect runoff water in the bottoms, make sure they stay as dry as possible. For the adult flies, those sticky 'no-pest' strips work fairly well when hung around infested plants... just don't let any fans blow them into the leaves. Most manufacturers of high quality potting soils make efforts to keep their products pest-free, but that won't always guarantee a pest-free grow. Baking the soil is a good way to kill any eggs that might be in the soil, but it can be pretty messy... and will definitely make your whole house smell like hot dirt. Regardless, that is an option.

As for the mold, I'm sure someone will chime in with a good product that they can personally recommend. My only advice there would be to make sure humidity doesn't get too high. Get a hygrometer if you don't already have one, and try not to let the humidity get above 60%. Best to keep it even lower than that if you're late into flowering.

Take care.
