Somebody has to make sure we aren't attacked, or our friends. What the hell do you know. Are you ready to defend your home if the military quits doing things for you? If the military says F it and goes on vacation and some unfriendlies roll up on our beaches and come to kill you...Are you ready to fight? I thought so, so let our soldiers be heros and shut your unintelligent mounths! Also read or ask some folks who have been there. The morale is great over there and we are making a difference. I know a little bit about serving the country. My grandfather, father , 2 uncles, myself, several cousins and now my sister have served.

It does not make it any easier to swallow knowing a loved one is going in harms way.

With that said.. who are we to tell someone to fuck off because of an opinion. I think all those soldiers I listed before fought to keep mine and your right to say what we want.

I been to Iraq...Twice...Were you? Morale in the over all ARMY and Marines forces sucks right about now...Don't know where you got your resources from. Officers might be loving life but ask the enlisted...the ones who carry this war on their backs.
You go figt a fucking war where you can not see an enemy who is always in your prescence. Go guard some oil fields (which I did as a Petroleum Supply Specialist, MOS-77F now 92F), and come back to see oil prices are rising weekly. See how you feel. So as a Disabled Vet I say fuck you...

I have 3 friends who have been to Iraq and enjoyed it a great deal. I understand not everyone feels the same way and they may not represent the masses, but none the less the three vets I know enjoyed their time in the service.

Secondly, why join the military if you aren't willing to go to war? I understand they sometimes lie in regards to deployment, but common sense should dictate there is a good possibility you will be sent to Iraq or Afghanistan. When you sign along that line you know your basically signing your life away for at least four years.

The bottom line is this. I have a lot of respect for those in the armed forces, I sure as hell wouldn't join. As for people who do though, it should be understood what you are getting yourself into. There is always the possibility you will be forced to fight in a war you don't believe in.

With that said, I firmly believe the National Guard should be used strictly for defensive purposes, natural disasters, etc, but again, it's understood you may be called to active duty.

On a final note, I see your point in regards to oil and feel we should be pushing the Iraqi government for a massive discount in that regard. At least we know the war wasn't over oil though...

You aren't supporting the troops. You are supporting the policy. To hide behind the military to attack someone for your belief in the policy is cowardly. The military isn't there voluntarily. They're there because of fatcat politicians.

No one except the ignorant blames the troops for the situation in Iraq. If anyone is to blame, it's the ones who decided for them to go. The military should be judged on how well they accomplish their orders and frankly we are the best. However our policies are shitty.

The military should be defending thier own countries not fighting to protect corporate interests.

There is a difference in defending our country and creating wars because we don't like how other countries run themselves. I'm sure the troops would gladly stay on their homeland and defend instead of going into other countries on the offensive.

If the war in Iraq had never happened I might be in the National Guard right now (since I messed up pretty bad in school). However, it IS happening, and men and women who aren't supposed to leave the country to Guard other Nations are doing just that, so no thank you. Joining the military to "defend" other countries isn't quite what I would have had in mind.

How can you declare war on terrorism? Ask yourself WHY there are terrorists in the middle East. You might then figure out who the real terrorists are.

Newsflash: No, we aren't. This whole situation has been called "The War in Iraq" almost since it's inception, courtesy of our money and politically driven 24 hour cable news friends. Too bad we not once ever declared war on Iraq. We issued several air strikes and a ground invasion. Vietnam wasn't a war either, it was a "conflict". Exact same policy was used back in the day.

So what's the difference? As far as I can tell, nothing. Provided Congress continues to approve of whats happening and continues to give it's support, there is almost no difference in declaring war or not.

i think anyone seeing their buddy's heads being blown off, or catching a roadside IED would beg to differ. The troops are at war, they are doing what they agreed to do, which is to do what is asked of them. like it or not.

It's kind of a semantics argument at this point isn't it? I mean, no matter what you call it (war, conflict, police action, beanbag fight, pissing contest), anyone joining the military right now knows what they are signing up for, right? Hard combat in Iraq or Aghanistan. Who could realisticaly expect anything else?

I hope the best for the sister and for everyone fighting over there. Please, God, come home safe. And I know that there are plenty of people who have been "stop lossed" into a war they never signed up for, or pulled out of the duty they expected when they signed up for the Guard, but anyone who has signed up in the last five years must know what they are getting into. They should not be surprised.

Hell yeah I am ready to fight and defend my home. I got a Colt 45 and a case of ammo, shotguns, deer rifles, even a 357 magnum. I pity the fool who rolls up to my door lookin for a fight. Minitary should be used for one thing, and one thing only: Home land security.

They should not be going off to other countries to fight.
