Cannabis evidence 'was devalued'
This is yet another example of the goverment employing somebody to give them advice and then completely ignoring them.

I find it amusing that the govt. spokesman said their goal was minimizing the harm. Can any defensible argument be made against the proposition that the way to minimize harm from drugs in general, and most especially marijuana is to legalize them (it)?

It gets even crazier, the bastards have sacked him.
Thank heavens for the scientific community who are backing the prof.

Dr King, former head of the Home Office's Drugs Intelligence Unit, said: "Professor Nutt may be an adviser but he's still got the right to say what he likes. That was being denied."
The Government had the right to reject the council's advice but its attitude towards the council had changed "very recently". The council was being forced to operate to a "pre-defined political agenda", he said. "It's being asked to rubber stamp a pre-determined position. If sufficient members do resign, the committee will no longer be able to operate." That really is the whole prohib game, isn't it. I believe, here in the US, President Nixon was the first of many to do the exact same thing. Convene a meeting of experts and then ignore their advice when it doesn't conform to the "pre-defined political agenda". "drug schedules" really seem random to me, here in the US and across the pond.

Following this with relish - this kind of fuckwittery proves that drugs policy is a Moral issue and not a Medical one.
The government are more worried about appearing 'soft on drugs' than they are about real harm. If they actually gave a shit we wouldn't have 'grit weed' - instead we would have access to lovely grade-A herb - just like you lucky buggers in California. At least they didn't murder him like Dr. David Kelly - oh wait, that was suicide... sure.

I always vote Monster Raving Loony Party but I'm almost tempted to vote lib/dem as they seem to be the only ones who would be lenient towards cannabis.
Unfortunately the rest of thier agenda is enough to prevent it. The story rolls on regarding prof Nutt as more scientists are threatening to walk.
