Should the US save money by making mexico another state?

Would the US be better off if we took over Mexico in a few days?
I can't help but think the government of mexico is to blame for the lack of enthusiasts wanting to stay there in the first place. Maybe we could save the money on border enforcement by simply making mexico a better place to live

How many billions will be spent total on deportations, border security ect

Surely with all the illegal immigration going on some people would favor this decision.

The mexican style of government is surely not very popular with many mexicans if they are risking life and limb to cross illegally

Anyone think we should run Mexico's unpopular government as another state of the US?

the small tip of mexico would be easily guarded from due to the small border with central america.. some navy/coast guard help would be needed though for sea going illegal immigrants trying to swim to "mexifornia"

I know it is a extreme idea. Any thoughts or feedback

well ya its an exteme idea. But If mexico became part of the United States, it would cost billions more dollars and decades of reform to bring them up to date with us. Mexico is much poorer economically then us and much more corrupt.
Look at soviet-era germany as an example. West germany was doing great economically on its own, while east germany was poverty struck because of years of rule under the soviet union. After the fall of the berlin wall, when the wealthy west germany and poor east germany came together again, the poor, poverty ridden side dragged west germany's economy down a ton.

Personally i do kinda like the idea of mexico becoming part of the united states and it would probably work out well for us in the long run. But would we really be willing to put that much effort into fixing up mexico after it became part of our country?

Well for one I cant see big bussiness being for this at all, think of all the jobs that our companies have sent to mexico.

If it did become part of the US, then all those companies would then be forced to give them mexicans minimum wage, and that would cut into profits.

I would actually be for this tho, altho it would take time to raise their economy to our standards in the long run I think it would be worth it.

I also cant imagine the rich class in mexico wanting anything to do with this either. And I guess we would be talking another invasion of a country, I dont see that the government of mexico would back this.

it's essentially going to happen, with the pan-american union, our own little european union... except it's more about bankrupting the US and turning the US into a third world country than it would be helping mexico.

and you wouldn't exactly save money by incorporating mexico...we'd be spending many times what we are now. we'd be worse off.

I've always thought it would be cool to combine the US and Mexico. It would make such an enormous impact, all the issues brought up so far would be miniscule compared to the ones not thought of yet such as revamping our "war on drugs" and all the ocean front property in Mexico. And just lots of inconceivable things. It would change everything. Canada would have to join in lest it would be left out in the cold.

    Mexicans are miserable?

since apparently mexican officals are just puppets for the US government any way, it wouldnt make much difference. We'd save money on the borders though.
A plan to unify all of north america under one flag is in the works anyway, so the eventual incorporation of mexico is only a matter of time, i believe

Choice "C"? Send the Mexican's to China??? Them Chihuaha dogs would make tasty appetizers

Anyhow, I think its pretty presumptuous for us to think that ALL Mexicans want to come to the U.S.. For every one that swims or tunnels their way in, there are hundreds who are proud to be Mexican and independent. Not everyone wants to be an American.

It wouldn't take massive amounts of money to put some decent, effective security on the border. But wait.. the Congress, Senate, and Executive Branch is made up of all Republicans!!!! YAY!!!! They'll get that border secure right? That's the conservative thing to do.. Wait, I guess not.

    hmmm...the current border.............
thousands of miles of land for tunnels, camo wearing illegals and corrupted bribed US agents...

    well,
I think a narrow border like the one found at central america would be much more cheaply and effectively protected....

Yeah, I figured that. My point was more that it's not really a choice for us to make at all. If the U.S. made the offer I am 99.999999% sure Mexico would tell us to fuck off. Of course, we could always just invade Mexico, crush their government, and make them succumb to our wishes but we don't do that. Um.....I guess we do do that now. Look out Mexico, he're comes Dubya

The fence (double layer wall)that they are considering would cost about 12 billion from Texas to California. ALL the costs were in a previous thread where me and Gumby were "debating" the issue.

    Have a good one!
