    Exclamation Cooking with Clippings - Do They Need to be DRY???

    Okay, got some clippings, leaves, with some trichomes on them that I want to use for cannabutter or cannaoil.

    Big question: DO THEY NEED TO BE DRIED TO MAKE BUTTER OR OIL?

    Or will the heating process activate their pshcoactive properties?

    Thats a good question... i actually cant answer for sure... i would advice, though, to dry the weed before, putting it into a preheated oven at 325F for 5 minutes... so you would be sure that the weed was already properly "activated", and wouldnt need to worry if the heating in the oil would be enough for do it.

    I'm not 100% sure, but i know that hash can be made with dry or wet clippings so I'm assuming the same goes for cooking....

    i dont know really, you could probably do either but with dry you wouldnt be adding any moisture to the oil/butter.

    Opps, didn't see this question till now, and have just posted the answer in another thread, so please excuse my laziness while I cut and paste it.

    Do the clippings need to be dry?

    Though the leaves and stems contain THC (in smaller quantities than bud), it's bound up in the cellulose structure, so in order to release it into the butter/oil you're virtually cooking (simmering) them down into a 'mush'!

    In the tests I've run, (N.B. this only applies when cooking leaves and stems) it makes no difference to the potency if you use fresh or dry material, in fact dried leaves and stems take slightly longer than fresh as you need them to soak up the water before they can begin to boil down and disintegrate. Fresh already contains moisture.

    The only other differences I've found in using fresh/dried stems and leaves is the colour of the oil/butter as fresh makes it look greener (dried browner) and a slight difference in taste. But hey, seeing as both taste like crap on there own lol, you'll be using them with other ingredients anyway.

    The science bit

    You don't need to dry the trimmings first because the process of slow boiling/simmering the plant material also isomerizes the inactive CBD, and decarboxylates the THCA to THC, 'wringing' out every last drop of that 'spacey goodness'!

    Shove it in the freezer first. that way when you cook it itl help more of the trichs fall off.

    how many clippings do u need to put in to equal 5 grams of bud
    if ur baking brownies
    i heard it was 2 Os but that doesnt really sound right to me
    any one know?

    I think it all depends on the quality of the herb clippings and leaf. I have a big-ass bag of leaf but have not cooked it into brownies yet. Maybe I'll do it over this upcoming weekend and post back what I find out. Only problem is that I am interviewing for a new job that will require a drug test and I'll only be able to post results from my GF who will be the taster...
