Hi ES
Just a couple of quick pointers that might help: Firstly, I'm a little curious you're using lard, is that due to a particular recipe requirement? The reason I ask is because lard is not particularly high in saturated fat (about 40-ish percent), and generally contains more monounsaturated fat (40 to 50-ish), and that's not really the most efficient conductor. I'd be tempted to suggest using regular butter and clarifying that instead (just heat on low till it froths and skim two or three times till it's a clear oil - store in the fridge till needed, keeps for more than a year). Do you have a particular 'space' product in mind, i.e. sweet or savory, cakes, biscuits etc? Let me know and hopefully we can help get some good canna-butter going for you (an ounce certainly gives you plenty of options). One last thing, how good on a scale of 1 to 10 is your shake (1 being mostly stems, 10 being small bud leaves with lots of trichs)? Cheers Flame

Hi ES
Yes, lard is pretty much pure fat, but the way the fat breaks down in the stomach effects how much THC you'll get into your bloodstream. Without getting too technical, the best fats are short to medium chain fatty acids which can pass through the stomach lining quickly and don't get too 'worked over' by the bile acids. Lard doesn't contain as much of this type of fat as regular butter (which is around 60+ percent) or clarified butter (around 80 to 90 percent). Best of all in my experience is coconut oil/butter as it contains around 90-ish percent, is a healthy option and tastes great too! lol. The downside though is it can be a bugger to find, so clarifying regular butter might be an easier option. You can still use your lard however, and it'll still work, but if you were to run a 'side-by-side' comparison you'd see quite a big difference in the amount of 'high' you'd experience (edit: even if you clarified the lard). So you'd almost certainly end up using less overall, and therefore saving yourself money and weed. The really good news is, it sounds like your shake is going to be pretty potent (a recipe is only as good as its ingredients), and you've got a crock pot too which makes things much easier, and gives you more options. I've got a couple of methods in mind that I think will do the trick, so I'll post them up in a hour or two when I get back to my computer after finishing my own cooking session (the weekends coming up and I need to be stocked up myself lol). Cheers flame

OK, here we go.
Firstly, I think you should only use enough shake to make enough canna-butter for this batch of brownies, save the rest for other attempts (also if they end up being too strong/weak you can adjust the quantities accordingly for next time. Secondly, I’m going to suggest using your crock pot to make your canna-butter, and then, as a mixing bowl for the brownie mix. Right, you’re going to need about 150 grams of canna-butter, assuming your recipe calls for 2/3rds of a cup of oil (best check it for me though), if that’s the case, and you allow roughly 0.4 grams of weed per brownie to make a pan of 16? You’re going to need about 7 grams of your shake to make enough. Let’s just keep it simple and say a quarter of your ounce. Assuming there are no obvious stems, seeds or pointed fan leaves in your shake, chop it/grind it to as fine a consistency as you can manage and then set it aside. I’m going to suggest putting a little over 2/3rds of a cup of regular butter into an oven proof mixing bowl (small enough to fit inside your crock pot with the lid on), and then with your crock pot set on low slowly heat it up till its frothy. Skim off the froth and discard (it’ll take two or three goes till you end up with a clear liquid). Once done tip in your 7 grams of ground shake and stir in until it’s all immersed in the butter. Put the lid on and leave (on low) for between 2 to 4 hours (not less), stirring briefly once an hour. It shouldn’t smell too much as the THC is trapped in the oil and the crock pot isn’t heating it above the vaporization point. Once finished, you’ll end up with a darkish green butter. Wait for it to cool (but not set fully), and then lift out the bowl and mix the rest of the ingredients according to ‘Betty’s’ instructions. Do NOT sift out the weed, your going to make the brownies with it still in the mix (another reason for chopping it finely). The only deviation we need to make is change the cooking temperature. If memory serves me correctly ‘Betty’ suggests 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 minutes? Ignore that and set your oven to gas mark 1 (270 degrees F or 140 degrees C) and cook for about an hour (take a look in the oven at around the 45 minute mark and use your best judgement). The reason for cooking at a lower temperature is that if you use 350 F you’re ‘burning off’ the THC and therefore reducing potency. This method should give you good quality, consistent brownies, similar in effect to the commercial Dutch varieties. If you’ve any questions don’t hesitate to fire back. Good luck and cheers Flame

Hi ES
Whether or not you leave the weed residue in the mix won't affect the taste much, the 'cannabis' taste will be mostly in the butter/oil now (You'll get a taste for it I'm sure, lol). However, remember the THC impregnated oil will still be a part of the residue, so to leave it out will potentially weaken the quality of your brownies. In addition, the plant material will digest at a slightly different rate to the oil in the brownie, and this can help 'extend' the length of the trip. Anyhow, here's hoping the results (whatever method you end up choosing) work out well for you. It can be a bit experimental at first, but when you crack it (and I'm sure you will) . . Wow!!
