What did I do wrong?
I decided to finally try things out, so I wanted to make a batch of Cannaoil and make brownies with it....
So I take about 6 grams of bud, on the high end of lows. I break it up fairly small and toss it into a jar with about a cup and a half of canola oil. I put a lid on the jar of canola oil and toss it into a crock pot full of water on low.... Once the water hits the hottest it gets, I take the jar out of the water every half an hour with potholders, and shake it hard for about two minutes, then put it back in the water. I do this for about 6 hours. When I take the jar out finally its gone from a light yellow color to a greenish gold. I then take the oil, get a couple brownie mixes from the store and mix up some brownies. I toss the pan of brownies in my toaster oven at 325 and cook it for 35 minutes or so. When I take the brownies out of the toaster oven and let them cool, I cut them up into 9 pieces per 9 inch square pan. So I have 3x3 brownies. I sit and eat one... First off, the taste of cannabis is overpoweringly strong. I mean, I figured that I would be able to tell, but it tastes like cannabis and spinach flavored brownies. I would have been fine with that if it had bloody done anything. I sit there for an hour. Nothing at all. I sit there for another hour and when nothing happens still I get a little frustrated. So I sit down and eat a pair of these brownies, hoping that it will do something, then go for a short jog. After my jog, I come back and sit and watch TV for the next three hours without so much as a sugar rush. What did I do wrong?! -- David -- |

It might have been the 35 minutes at 325. I've always heartd you should go for a lower temp and raise the time.
Also I cook my oil for usually 12 hours so I don't think that was the problem. How hot was the water bath? And did the oil actually simmer any? If you felt absolutely nothing I'd say the oil never got hot enough to activate the THC. Even if you vaped the weed by baking it I think you would have gotten a mild buzz from it. |

Its prolly the oil never got hot enough....
I'm not sure how hot the oil got because it was in a jar the whole time. The weed was potent when smoked. I tried using the last bit of the oil with garlic as a dip and it didn't do anything either, so I guess the cooking it in the oven didn't kill the THC. Blast. I have no idea where to get more in this podunk little town either. -- David -- |

If you sealed the jar while it was sitting in the crock pot it will build up to much heat, I usually either just let the top sit on the jar so air/heat can escape or don't use the top at all. Even though the crock pot is at a good temperature the fact the the jar is sealed will allow it to build up way to much heat. I am not 100% positive if this was your problem but it would be my first guess.
